Learnings

Draft experiment

Turn an open question into a draft experiment in one step, with the hypothesis, mechanism and targeting already filled in.

Every opportunity on the Learnings page has a Draft experiment button. After you confirm, it creates a draft with a hypothesis written from the question, the expected mechanism, and two variants ready for the editor, and opens it.

Where the tests behind the question share a page, the draft takes the URL rules of the newest of them, so it targets the page the evidence came from. The figures in the hypothesis are the ones the Learnings page showed, not new ones.

The opportunity is marked as drafted, with a snapshot of the evidence as it stood: the baseline the new test has to beat. The evidence is read afresh at the moment of drafting, so a question that has moved on since the page loaded is refused rather than drafted on stale numbers, and a double click makes one draft, not two.

Drafting is kept to the roles that can create experiments. Everyone else can read the opportunity and the evidence behind it, and the draft then goes through the same review, targeting and scheduling as any other experiment.
