Going Over Your Session Allowance
Learn when Pertento warns you about usage, when going over moves you up a plan, and what choosing Keep my plan does instead.

Traffic is not predictable, and a campaign or a sale can push one month well past normal. Pertento's rules are built so that a single busy month costs nothing, and a lasting change in traffic leads to a plan that fits it.
The notices
Owners and Admins are notified by email and in the product when the account reaches 80% of its allowance, and again at 100%. For an agency's client account, the agency's Owners and Admins are notified too.
One period over is free
Going over your allowance in a single plan period costs nothing extra, and nothing changes.
When the plan moves up
The account moves up one plan if either of these happens:
- it goes over its allowance in two consecutive periods, or
- it uses more than three times its allowance in a single period.
You are always told first, and a move is never an immediate charge. The billing page shows the notice: "You have gone over your sessions, so your plan moves up" to the next plan, with the date it takes effect.
- On a monthly plan, the move happens at the end of the current period.
- On a yearly plan, the move happens once the notice is at least 7 days old, and the difference for the rest of the year is charged pro rata.
The account never moves while it is on a free trial, and there is nothing to move up to from Unlimited.
Keep my plan
If you would rather not move up, choose Keep my plan on the notice, or Keep the current plan under the plan cards, and confirm with Stay on your current plan.
The move is then cancelled, and your plan's limit becomes a hard one: once the account has used all its sessions, further sessions are ignored until the period resets. That applies across all of Pertento for that account. Experiments and surveys are not served to those visitors, who see your site as it is without any variant.
You can lift the limit at any time by choosing a larger plan in Settings then Billing.
Which to choose
Moving up keeps every experiment running at full traffic, which matters most in the middle of a test, because a test that loses traffic for part of a period runs longer to reach a result. Keeping your plan caps your cost, at the price of pausing serving once the allowance is used. If the extra traffic was a one-off, remember that one period over is already free.
See Plans, Sessions and Your Monthly Allowance for how sessions are counted.
